Please note that "Chalitzah" refers to the rite which frees a man and woman from their obligation to perform yibbum - levirate marriage.
One should stick to chalitzah, rather than yibbum: Yevamot 109a-b
The ideal was originally yibbum, and chalitzah was only if yibbum would not be done, until men started to perform yibbum for non-altruistic motives: Ketuvot 64a; Bechorot 13a
