For certain laws, the Thanks Offering is compared to the Celebratory Offering, due to Biblical usage of the term "Shelamim" on the Thanks Offering: Menachot 46a, 46b, 47b
There are two Elements Necessary to Permit its Use: The Slaughtering and the Blood-Sprinkling: Pesachim 13b

Responsibility for the Offering
If the Animal damages something ,the Damaged party collects the body of the Thanks-Offering which damaged, but the owner must still bring it as an Offering first: Bava Kamma 13b
What if a Thanks-Offering was confused with an animal which the owner attempted to exchange for it, and then one died: Rosh HaShanah 5b
